Head Office of the company I work for is on the 42nd floor of this beautiful building- The Al Hambra Tower, tallest building in Kuwait, and tallest sculpted concrete building in the world!
After a few days getting the school ready and meeting all the staff, tomorrow sees our Secondary pupils return, with the Primary, Reception and Kindergarten starting over the week. The playgrounds and corridors seem very quiet at the moment.
So, arrived in Kuwait Thursday evening, after an age waiting for bags and sorting out a SIM card and cheap phone at the airport finally got to my apartment and got some sleep. Spent all day yesterday exploring the local area, setting up my apartment, making lists, buying stuff, forgetting to buy stuff, going back out and buying more stuff! The heat now makes me laugh because it's so insane! At the moment I'm going out for short wanders, coming back to the apartment within about an hour to shower and change into clothes that aren't soaked with sweat!!! Good news is I'm a 3 minute walk from the school, and within less than 10 minutes walk I can get to 3 different supermarkets and 2 shopping malls. Oh and a KFC, Starbucks, Pizza Hut and Burger King! But with incredible local, traditional cuisine ridiculously cheap I shan't be hitting any western chains just yet! It's been another week full of parent's evenings so I've been very quiet again. Made up for it this weekend though, spent most of Friday walking the length and breadth of North Kuwait, then today did a 5k run to the beach, swam, sunbathed then walked back. Over the course of the last couple of days I've seen lots of wonderful things and buildings that I've shared below. I've also found some more great little coffee houses and restaurants. So I started yesterday walking to Al Shaheed Park, I've shared some photos from the evening there a couple of weeks ago, but during the day it is equally both stunning and tranquil. En route there I got some photos from the car park of the Al Othman Museum, where they have a few tanks and jets parked (as you do!), remnants from the 1990 invasion.
